We baked the GB man, but he ran out of the oven! We asked the librarians if they’d seen our runaway dessert!

On our way to search the front office! The first graders favorite part was when Ms. Julia stepped on the dead cockroach.

We found him in Mr. David’s (the principal) room!

Downpour Bike Ride August 2011

Many of the teachers I work with decided to go bike riding in Prapadang. Getting there was the first adventure. After taking sky train, subway, taking a taxi to the wrong location (my fault), then taking taxi to the right pier, boating across the Chao Praya river, we made it to this jungley, quaint, quiet island. We rented bikes for one dollar and enjoyed the freshness of this place. We are in rainy season now, and so it wasn’t long before we were caught biking in torrential rains. It rained so hard my contacts were not staying in place and I could hardly see where I was going. We were drenched! We received many strange looks on our way back home. Sopping wet western weirdos. It was a great time.

Let the bicycling begin! This is my favorite place to be in Bangkok. It is called the Lung of the City because it is the greenest spot.

We rode and got caught in a massive downpour. We made it to a gazebo to take a break from the rain. This is my clever attempt to keep our basket full of purses dry while we ride.

Beautiful pool!

Grass! Pool!

The couch. Notice the orange decorations that came with the studio.

My apartment building. This street looks deceivingly peaceful, but in reality I hold my breath every time I cross this busy street. If I die in Thailand it will be crossing this street.
Sam_8434
My building in the background. I love the fancy high rise in the background and the tin makeshift fence in the foreground.
Sam_8435
Two of the many soi dogs I pass on the street going home. I actually have a sidewalk!
Sam_8436

Sam_8437
Right below my balcony is a big trash pit-or so I thought. I noticed that it is actually a home for many people. They play volleyball, wash, and cook here.

The kitchen. I love all the mismatching items that came with the apartment....the flower pictures, the orange bed spread, the blue BMW car photo.

Photos from Songkran Celebration April 5, 2011

Songkran Celebration! Songkran was celebrated at school today. Songkran is a big water fight on a hot day in April. On the real Songkran day, people all over Thailand will be soaking each other with water all day long. Here are pictures of our school celebration. Traditional Songkran clothing is flowery shirts. I bought mine at Big C and I give it a capital Q for Quality fabric, design, and taste :-)

Neighborhood Scenes

Here are some pictures of my neighborhood just for fun...

No it isn’t pee. This is seran wrapped tea for people to drink waiting in the hospital lobby :-)
Sam_7543
My great friend Heather and I after a long work day hanging out at the hospital drinking pee-ish tea. Notice Heather’s robe. They told her to put it on then sent her back out to the public waiting room. We are delirious as we look in this shot.
Sam_7574
Durians at the grocery store.
Sam_7575
This is actually taken in Pattaya, but the power lines are just as messy in Bangkok!
Sam_7577
Do you see the Index Living Mall sign at the right? I live a quarter of a mile behind that. I walk across this skywalk to get to my apartment....if I am on the late bus home.
Sam_7578
A soi dog on the skywalk to my apartment.

A busy market closer to the city.
Sam_7587
Walking down the BTS is a crowded sea of heads.
Sam_7590
The rest of the pictures are the scenes from the run I usually take. My battery ran out of my camera, so you will see part 2 soon! The 2 girls in this picture are Stefanie pushing her daughter Kija, and Heather. This is the street right out front of the complex.
Sam_7591
Klong (canal). Stinky.
Sam_7592
Down the street I run.
Sam_7593
I turn left at the king for the run to the park. Pictures of the king are all over...I even glimpse posters of him in peoples homes.
Sam_7594
Still on my run....up ahead to the right are the funny motorcy taxi drivers.....
Sam_7595
This market is down the street I run sometimes. Here is Heather telling the sellers that she will run tomorrow. I love that I caught her in mid-jogging motion.
Sam_7596
Lots and lots of street vendors like this.
Sam_7597
I pass a soccer field.
Sam_7598
Most houses look like this. Laundry hanging out to dry.
Sam_7599
My favorite part of the run! A quiet spot with cat tails and swamp on either side. It connects to busier soi streets. I love running here even if it only lasts 2 minutes. The rest of the run is really interesting, too. I will send them soon!

Kaeng Kracharn Camping

Kaeng Kracharn Weekend Stats....

Almost attacked by a poisonous, red centipede, swimming in our hot-sweaty-hiking clothes in the cow smelling river, a peaceful camping spot with noisy karaoke, games of Beans, delicious cookies and hot dogs and other weight gaining snacks, lots of STARS, and good company.

Of course we know how to set up the tent :-)
